Every Scentique Maison piece is hand-poured in small batches. A little care keeps it beautiful — whether you burn it or display it.
The First Burn
The first burn sets the memory of the wax. Let the melt pool reach the edge of the candle before extinguishing — usually 2–3 hours for our container candles. Blowing it out too early causes tunnelling, where the candle burns down the centre and wastes the wax at the sides.
Trim the Wick
Before every burn, trim the wick to about 5 mm (¼ inch). A long or mushroomed wick creates smoke, soot and an oversized flame. A quick trim gives a cleaner, brighter, longer-lasting burn.
Burning Sculptural Candles
Our sculptural pieces — Medusa, the busts, the silhouettes — are designed first as objects of display. If you do choose to light one, always place it on a heat-resistant dish or tray, as sculptural candles release melted wax as they burn rather than containing it. Burn in sessions of no more than 1–2 hours, away from draughts, and never leave unattended. Many of our customers never light theirs at all — displayed unlit, they last indefinitely.
Caring for Displayed Pieces
Keep sculptural candles out of direct sunlight and away from radiators or warm windowsills — natural wax can soften, fade or warp in heat. Dust gently with a soft dry brush; avoid damp cloths, which can dull the matte finish.
Safety Essentials
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep away from children, pets, draughts and anything flammable. Burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface, and stop burning when 1 cm of wax remains at the base. Extinguish with a snuffer or by dipping the wick into the melt pool to avoid smoke.
Wax Melts
Place one segment in the well of an unlit wax burner with an unscented tealight below, or use an electric burner. Never add water, and allow the wax to cool fully before removing or replacing it.
